The Lake District
The Lake District is a mountainous region in North West England, about an hour north of where I grew up. It is famous for its lakes, mountains, sheep, swans, walking paths as well as its associations with William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
Accommodation:
-
I would suggest renting a cottage in Hawkshead or Grassmere.
-
When it comes to hotels and B&Bs, you are spoiled for choice.
-
For young trekkers who don't need the comforts of a luxury hotel, YHA has plenty of properties throughout the region, great fro backpacking.
Activities:
-
Hike Helvellyn or Great Gable.
-
The best view (in my opinion) is that from Loughrigg Terrace. Photos don't do it justice, but here is a sneak peek.
Food:
-
The Drunken Duck
-
Gingerbread in Grassmere.
-
Enjoy a 99 and feed the ducks and swans on Lake Windermere.
-
The Britannia Inn at Elterwater is a family favourite as it had plenty of space for us to run around as children.
