Cheshire, England

Cheshire is a county in North West England - my first home. I was born 14 miles southwest of Manchester in Knutsford; located near Cheshire's Golden Triangle, on the Cheshire Plain between the Peak District and the Welsh mountains. Knutsford and its surrounding villages are primarily sought-after residential areas, but there are some lovely places to stay as well as things to see and do, outlined on this page.

Towns:

  • Knutsford

  • Hale

  • Prestbury

  • Alderly Edge

  • Chester

  • Manchester

  • Altrincham

Accommodation:

  • The Mere dubs itself as Cheshire's premier resort destination for business and pleasure. The premise is complete with 81 luxury guest rooms, a Championship Golf Course and an award-winning restaurant and a spa. Locals can become members, while guests are welcome to use all amenities.

  • For history buffs, you may enjoy staying at Peckforton Castle. The architecture does not disappoint.

Activities:

  • For a good day of shopping and lunching, visit Chester. Be sure to have tea at the Grosvenor and walk the walls of the old town. My favourite shops are Boodles and Reiss.

  • If you like the outdoors, go for a walk in Tatton Park. There is a gorgeous manor house, acres of wildlife, and the grounds are home to the annual RHS Flower Show. Alternatively, the National Trust's Dunham Massey is a Georgian house and garden, perfect for walking the dog.

  • The largest cities are Manchester, Macclesfield and Chester. While Manchester is a bustling modern urban center, home to two football teams, shopping streets, nightclubs, restaurants and corporate offices, Chester is a quaint, historic place great for a day of shopping and eating.

Food:

  • My godfather always takes me to an Indian restaurant in Hale called Cinnamon. He orders everything on the menu as sharing plates every time we go, so I can assure you, it is all delicious.

  • Cheshire Life always features trendy new restaurants, so check the magazine before making any decisions.

Nightlife:

  • For good nightlife, head into Manchester. My go to spot to start the night is Neighbourhood, followed by a club in Spinningfields with an event going on that night.

Tourist Attractions:

  • Cheshire isn’t quite as touristy as say London, but there are some sights to see if you are visiting the area. The county’s tourism website may have some additional suggestions I did not include.

Enjoying a hanging kebob at The Botanist in Knutsford with my beautiful godsister.
